New ZoomProspector Feature: “Find Similar Communities”
Today at the Web 2.0 Expo in San Francisco, we are pleased to announce an exciting new ZoomProspector.com search feature called “Find Similar Communities”. This feature provides a new search option (Option #3 on our homepage) for businesses to use to match a familiar city to cities that have similar demographic and geographic characteristics. We have been using this feature internally for a few months to help reporters at Forbes, Fortune and BusinessWeek to deeply analyze and rank cities across the United States. As of today, with the release of the Fortune Small Business article “Picking the best places to launch a biz” (also available in the April print issue) we are releasing the tool for anyone to use.
Small businesses often know what they like about a city already, so we built this new tool to allow them to search for places in the USA that are a close match to places that they are already familiar with, already running a successful business, or would just like to compare how a city or county that you are interested in matches up with other cities.
The tool works like this. First, you enter any city or county in the United States into Option #3.

The next screen gives you a set of demographic and geographic variables that allow you to tell ZoomProspector what factors are most or least important to you.

After you conduct the search, ZoomProspector will return a ranked list of cities or counties that best match your criteria (also shown on our interactive national map).

Alternatively, you may use Option #1 “View community data for any location”, enter a city or county name to check out a detailed community profile for any community in the USA and then from there, you can click on the “Find Similar Communities” link.

So go to our homepage, choose Option #3 or Option #1 and start to find out what communities in the USA are a close match to your favorite places!
